Celebrating Two Decades of Dim Mak
Dim Mak Records, founded by Steve Aoki, is marking a milestone. For 20 years, Dim Mak has pushed boundaries, bridging punk and EDM. To celebrate, Aoki has curated a special stage at Electric Zoo. The festival takes place on Saturday, September 3, and showcases the evolution of DM’s sound.
From Punk Roots to EDM Powerhouse
Steve Aoki’s journey began with a deep passion for DIY punk and hardcore music. In 1996, he launched Dim Mak to support unique talents from these scenes. Aoki started with concerts in his living room, famously known as “The Pickle Patch.” Over the years, DM has expanded into EDM, featuring artists like Pretty Girls Make Graves, Bloc Party, The Klaxons, and Soulwax. Aoki’s early DJ days included music from MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots. Today, DM even has collaborations with Pharrell.
